The Gore Bay Memorial Arena was constructed in 1949, and for the past 60 years has been a main winter activity for Gordon/Barrie Island residents. The arena provides many forms of recreation for those living in Western Manitoulin, including minor league hockey, figure skating, sportsmen hockey and public skating. The arena is also used by the local elementary school as part of their physical education program.

The Friends of the Arena Fundraising Group was established to fundraise for renovations to the arena. Due to their hard work, new dressing rooms were built in 2010. Fundraising is ongoing to keep the arena up to date. Thank you to all the volunteers for their hard work.
