In 2009, the Township of Barrie Island and the Township of Gordon and Allan West amalgamated into what is today known as the Municipality of Gordon/Barrie Island. Spanning over 250 square kilometres with a population of more than 500, the municipality is proud of its agricultural and marine history, and continues to grow as businesses spring up and visitors turn Gordon/Barrie Island into their seasonal home.
